I had to catch up on a few posts here! Your Burma post, combined with the story about being chased by the angry water carrier, reminded me of a story of my mother's. She lived in India for a while back in the 60's, and when it was all still new to her, she once jumped out of the car to take some pictures of a water buffalo near the road. As she snapped pictures, a man standing nearby began yelling at her. She couldn't understand a word he was saying, so she just smiled and nodded and continued taking pictures, while this man became louder and more animated, yelling and waving his arms around. Finally, she returned to the car, and asked her driver what the man had been yelling. The driver translated: "Watch out, lady! It's about to charge you!"
That's funny - and she was lucky she avoided calamity despite the language barrier. I think in my case the only thing charging was the water carrier.
